'59 rear bumper stops

Post by Whiterabbit »

Good Morning!

The rear bumper on my 59 SF is (was) missing both of the bump stops, i think some refer to these as bumper guards.. I have seen pics of 2 different types; the first type are all chrome; the second type have a rubber pad mounted on the stop. As it turns out, I have a nice set of the chrome only ones, but I was finally able to get into the trunk of my project and lo and behold(!) there was a single stop of the 2nd type... Was this some kind of (odd) option? both fit in the designated spot perfectly and honestly, both look good, imo, but in a practical sense it would seem that the rubber padded one would be less prone to light damage..

Jes wonderin.. Thanks!

Hi Henry,

Yes - bumper guards were optionally available on the '59 Plymouth (option #355) - not just on the rear bumper guards, but on the front bumper as well. Here are pix of a '59 Sport Fury (not mine) with both.
