I just recently purchased a '59 savoy and it has a few elect. problems. Mainly the horns are inop. Not to sound like an idoit but, I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on where I can a wiring diagram? Is this a common problem?

The horns work on a live voltage to the horn with the horn switch supplying the ground. So first thing hook a hot lead to one terminal of the horn and ground the other terminal with a jumper and see if the horn works. If they do, then check for voltage in the wire going to the horn. If there is voltage present, hook that lead to the horn, then ground the other terminal and that should honk. If this works but you horn ring doesn't work, you need to check your horn switch. Find the wire going from the switch down the steering column and ground it. If the horn honks, but doesn't with your horn ring then the switch is bad. Good luck

First test the horns...(run a jumper to them from the battery). If they work with the jumper, this means your trouble is most likely in the steering column, specifically in the horn "button" itself. You will need to disassemble the steering wheel. A Savoy button can be disassembled in the following manner:
Press your palm on the center silver section, push and rotate it counterclockwise approx. 1/4 turn. This should unhook the connecting fingers. Wiggel it loose and remove. After this, you will need to get a (steering) wheel puller to pull the steering wheel off. That will expose the horn switch. Possibly the horn switch (which was made of fiberboard) will have warped from heat and is no longer useable. In that case, you will have to get a new one. If the switch itself is okay, then check the wiring down the steering column.
The horn circuit is tricky, because it relies on the steering column being grounded thru the column... We can go into that later...hopefully you can fix it with the tips I wrote out.
