Can anyone help Davy with his torqueflite question?
Davy Borghys wrote:Hi Dan,

I just checked with a supplier for US car parts and he can't seem to find information on whether or not the '59 Torqueflite trans (as my '59 Sport Suburban has), comes with a filter or not...

My car shifts fine into all forward gears as well as reverse, but it's sometimes slow to shift from N to D - especially when cold.
I thought it could be a clogged filter, but perhaps it just means the oil needs to be replaced?

Thanks for any info!

In the Parts Book, I can see a "transmission oil pump strainer", a permanent component of the transmission, which certainly could be partially blocked. I would recommend a standard transmission service
(drop the pan, drain all fluid, clean strainer)..
I hear folks talking about tightening bands, but I have never learned about them, and since your tranny is not slipping, only sluggish when cold, I think it needs the standard service.
