I got the
car in primer and the mirrors properly installed!
"I bought
this car in july of 2004," says Jeremy. "It had been sitting
in some tall weeds in a local junkyard.
I walked past it many times, and never thought twice, you could barely
see it through the junk cars and weeds around it. The salvage yard
had it for many years (tag expired in '89) but it was running when
parked. the salvage yard had to shut down and crush out because of
the ground pollution. the owner of the yard wanted $500 for it, but
i was able to talk him down to $250. I found a '89 diplomat police
car in the same yard. It donated it's brake system and rear axle. I
kept the 15" wheels off of donor car, and plan on using '71 fury
hubcaps." |
"The '59 has the 230
ci 6 cylinder. I took it home and with a starter, battery, fresh gas,
tune-up -- it started right
up, but it smokes though. It has a three speed manual in it right now,
but i plan on upgrading to a V8 and 5 speed manual tranny (newer model,
either 5.7 hemi or 5.9). The floor, trunk, and gas tank are rusted
out. Overall the car is pretty complete, and totally original. I plan
on making it a daily driver. I'm not sure on the color scheme, but
leaning towards two-tone red and white with same color combo on the
inside. It is sitting 1500 miles away from me right now, but I plan
on moving back this spring and starting the resto. Don't make fun of
where the side mirrors are mounted, I bought it like that and didn't
have a chance to properly install them before I moved. Looks like somebody
sent a golf-ball through it, so i am looking for a windshield too!"
