'59 Fury 2dr HT in NYC

Post by creativefilmcars »

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to take a minute introduce myself: My name is Donald and am the owner of Creative Film Cars in NYC. We provide vehicles for film, TV, photo and fashion shoots.

I have been obsessed with Virgil Exner/Forward Look cars my whole life (as a quick glimpse at my website http://www.creativefilmcars.com will show), and this summer finally was able to get myself one of my dream cars: a low mile 1959 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop with power steering, power brakes and knee-knocker A/C! I purchased it from the production of David Chase's Twylight Zones, where it is one of the hero cars.

The car had been sitting since the late 70's and the production did just enough work to get the car moving around set. Since having obtained it, I have done a good deal of work on it to get it where I want it (a very good driver that I can enjoy while bringing the cosmetics back) including a new fuel tank, trunk, brakes, radiator, wide white radials, etc. Other than the trunk it was a very straight, rust free car to begin with and now it is a very strong, reliable driver. I have already added 1000 happy miles to the original 47,000 when I got it on the road in the Fall!

The car was painted green with no clearcoat to give it a rougher appearance for the film and the driver's door was painted over in primer. I am matching the door, but don't mind the paint being matte for now as I can drive it anywhere and not be worried about it getting scratched. Unfortunately, the production lost the driver's side trim pieces and the upper trim from the front fender, so any help locating those pieces would be much appreciated.

I am also in search of a new windshield and would love to have a correct 'double bubble' one, but those seem prohibitively expensive. I'm also on the prowl for new bumpers, or recommendations where I can get mine straightened/replated.

If any of you are in the NYC region, please feel free to let me know of any shows/meeting/etc. as I'm always looking for an excuse to take it for a drive!

Anyhow, if you are interested in seeing some more photos of my car or many of the other FL cars I represent, you can look through the photos on my company's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/creativefilmcars1 and you can learn about my company and search through the thousands of vehicles we represent at http://www.creativefilmcars.com/.

Happy motoring!
Donald

Welcome Donald! There are many sources for parts on this web site. Take a look at the Showcase and you will see (under the Sport Fury section) a couple of local to you New Yorkers that have 59 Plymouths, Ed Eckerson (Long Island) and Steve Storey a bit further north in the Empire state in Sidney, NY

A great source if parts is actually a man named John Fowlie, in Williams, California.(goes by Big M on the forum) He has an auto salvage yard that deals in our type of cars. He would be a great source of parts. Check him out at www.bigmauto.com or call him at 530 473 2225.

I don't know of any local places to fix your numbers, there must be some near you. Check with some of the other local car guys at some of your weekend car cruises for recommendations of local vendors to assist you.

Look forward to seeing some pics of your car soon under the Show your ride part of the forum.

Hello John,

Thank you for the reply and for the helpful leads! I will definitely check out Big M.

I posted some photos up in the Show your Rides section.

I'll keep posting as I get more done on the car and look forward to being a part of the community!

Take care,

Welcome Donald - I recently had my rear bumper re chromed by Tri-City Plating in Tn. I ordered it then exchanged my core at Fall Carlisle. I think they need a month or two heads up time. They seemed to do a wonderful triple plate job for a reasonable amount - $610. The beauty of exchanging personally of course is the avoidance of huge freight bills. Phone 800-251-7536. This included the rear guards. They seems to be good at ding removal as well - which is included. I'm located East of Binghamton and am going to try and make the Rhinebeck show May 5-6. Thats kind of in your "Neck of the Woods" - pretty ride up the Hudson. I've been told to avoid Bumper Boyz - think the chrome washes off in the car wash-ho ho! Your car looks great.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the welcome and the recommendation. I'll have to check them out!

I've been to the Rhinebeck show a few times and there are always a lot of nice cars, but its been a while since I've been able to go. Definitely going to try to make it this year; hope to meet you there!

Take care,
Donald
