John Quinn's Belvedere convertible up for sale on eBay

Post by Faulkner »

By now folks know John has decided to put his Belvedere up for sale. You can find it here - John writes,
John Quinn wrote:This is my pride and joy 59 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible that I put back on the road 7 years ago. Originally Black but is now painted in the Spring Color of Turquoise that Plymouth offered back then. Car was built in the Evanston, Indiana Assembly Plant on April 30th, 1959 according to Chrysler Historical records. Car was located in Montana on a ranchers field and hauled back to Denver to start its restoration.

It took me 6 years to resurrect this car from its condition of "abandonment" and neglect. Originally the car was missing its 318 4bbl. engine when I bought the car but I had a 1960 413 RB engine on a engine stand that I had built up to the specs of an 59 Chrysler 300E with dual carter AFB's to fill the space under the hood. This was done to replicate a proto-type Concept car that Chrysler had built in 1959 but never saw production. This is not that car but a tribute to that Concept. Rear end gear ratio is 3.58 to one so it moves out rather quickly.

I also had the Sport Fury type swivel seats installed with the SF Cloth and Vinyl material. Car comes with the 1959 Only front Bumper wings, dual antennae, Deluxe see-thru acrylic steering wheel, AM radio, Padded dash. Also an original transmission mounted 1959 dealer installed A/C control pod. I never had the lines made to hook all of this up to the engine compressor. but the hard to find pod goes with the car. The white convertible top is 7 years old and has one small tear in it at a pivot point of the top, but presently sealed up to keep any moisture out.

I am selling the car reluctantly to finance the restoration of my 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Convertible that I picked up last year and the sale of this car would allow me to finish it right. Though I would love to have two Forward Look convertibles at one time to drive would be a dream but finances dictate other-wise.

The Belvedere was my first attempt in restoring a car and is far from being a #1 car, I would say it is a strong #3 car. I was going to do a repaint of the car this past winter but a foot surgery kept me off my feet all winter. I do have and will come with the car a gallon of Turquoise base coat paint. The car has been up and running fine for 7 years now. Normal weepage of engine oil and Transmission fluid is there, that is typical of 60 year old cars. The car shows well at car shows and local cruises mostly due to the Fins and the Unique color of Turquoise is an attention-getter. Please call or email if you have any questions or would like more pictures of the car. PN3038 1555 60. Car is located in Arvada, Colo (NW Denver metro area) I just took first place in my class at the big Mega Mopar show here is Denver last weekend and took the car to Van Nuys, CA for annual Spring Fling show. So if you were there you wold have seen the car in person.

Hope the car stays in the US but the last car I sold (58 Plymouth) went to Germany and this one could possibly end up in Sweden as the Swedes love the Fin Cars. So if you are in the market for an Forward Look convertible here is one priced right. I have the car insured for $40K but am listing it for an reasonable starting point. Ask any questions you want about the car. John

P.S. Additional items of interest is the car has Mopar front disc brakes, dual chamber master cylinder. Converted from Generator to Alternator, & Mopar electronic ignition for reliability. front Mopar sway bar added from a 60 New Yorker.

Frau Blucar Van nuys.jpg

Wow! I can't believe John is selling 'Frau Blucar', I went with John Q. to the Spring Fling in Van Nuys, California, and cruised with John to Malibu twice, enjoyed every minute, this vehicle performed flawlessly, being the passenger I was able to relax and enjoy all scenery. I will not tell on John, but no one passed us at any time. The other events of the car cruise, like to the Big Boy also were great. The Frau is the best turn key car you could ever wish for. Went to breakfast with John Q. He said the new owner and friend were driving the Frau down to Houston today. Staying on continent anyway
An adventure they will enjoy, the weather was cool and threatening to rain.
