Starter for 1959 361 Golden Comando

Post by Goauld »

I can't seem to find any starters for sale anywhere that will go on this engine. Is there? another starter from a another year or for a different engine that will work on my 361 :?:
Also i can't seem to keep a steady spark. I have put in new points, condenser, cap, roter, coil, plugs, plug wires. I get spark but only intermitantly(sp) not sure what to do next any ideas would be welcomed.
Oh by the way I own a 1959 Sprt Fury convertable that is bronze. Not restored but still looks decent for being 45 years old.

Welcome, Goauld! I'll ask around about starters for your 361... I wonder if you have a short in your coil current wire, or a bad connection. Try tracing out your wires in the ignition circuit, and look for places where wires may come in intermittent contact with the block. Mebbe I'll come on over, and we can have a look!

Please tell us more about yourself, and about your car. And please let us put your car in the showcase! The more the merrier. Please email pix and commentary to dan@59plymouth.net .

Welcome aboard!

as far as i know, any big block starter from the forward look era ('55 - '61) will work. no newer BB starters will work, though, as i learned while working on my '61 Imperial. my buddy has one (on my Imperial right now) but i don't know if he's willing to sell, i could ask if you want.
bought my grandma a ball of steel wool and she's knitting me a foreign car.

all I can add is when I took my 1961 "361" starte in for rebuild, the man said thank you for bringing in a parts starter, because we can't get those solenoids anymore...
